We were asked by our customer, a transformer manufacturer, to be involved in the R&D of a new range of protective covers for busbar bushing.
The existing busbar transformer covers being used were difficult and time consuming to assemble. In addition, the covers were also expensive.
The aim of the project was to design a new busbar bushing cover which was easier to assemble thereby reducing the assembly time.
Using our in house engineering capability we worked on the design of a new cover.
For the product material we had an existing plastisol suitable for the application, Electrical Grade Material: Grey 40.
Properties of Grey 40 include;
- Anti-fungal material for long term exposure up to 15 years
- UV resistant designed for outdoor use
- Electrical resistance for a potential animal strike up to 35 KV
- Fire retardant UL 94 V1
- RoHS compliant.
A new cover was designed and samples manufactured for our customer to test in the field. The assembly time was reduced and the covers easier to fit. The prototype was approved. The cost of the new design cover in comparison to the existing cover was also reduced giving our customer a financial saving.
