Hydrophilic Coated Catheters for Bowel Irrigation

Hydrophilic Coated Catheters for Bowel Irrigation

When using medical devices such as catheters, the insertion and removal can be affected by the frictional forces occurring at the device-body interface.  This friction can increase the risk of inflammation, tissue damage and discomfort for the patient. Procedure times can also be prolonged.

Runfold Plastics, supported by our raw material supplier is committed to offering solutions that reduce such problems through the application of Enhanced Lubricious Coating.

The lubricious coating has been specifically designed and formulated to provide a stable, heat-cured coating, which can be applied simply to both the internal and external surfaces of a device. When hydrated the coating provides lubricity, minimising the risk of tissue damage and patient discomfort.

This coating technology has shown increased lubricity and stability on materials such as:
Polyurethane
Polyolefin
Polyvinylchloride
Latex
Polystyrene
Polycarbonate
Pebax
Nylon
Silicone
Polyester

The lubricious coating properties are suitable for a range of medical applications including tissue contacting devices such as rectal catheters and balloon catheters.
